Johann Hari: we will save the planet only if we are forced to.

Johann Hari: we will save the planet only if we are forced to.

Johann said that we all must take this problem seriously and we must work to solve it. Because of fluctuate violently that started 10000 years ago it made it impossible to develop agriculture and growing crops due to a yearly climate change. But after that things have change to the better, and the weather settled and so did the humans. The problem that the humans are doing to the world from the emission of gases to the atmosphere ma lead to another type if living which is like the old days where we used spears and sticks. We must try to convene people about the green option because it is not only harming the person him self but also harming people who are living and sharing the planet with him. Even though libertarian have right to have to fire nuclear weapons but this things must be stopped and the fake excuses.

Opinion on this topic is that the writer has a point which I agree on. He says that ether we should stop polluting the earth or we will all live a bad life then like the life before 10,000 years ago.

cool cities (SDCJ)

Whit all development we have there is a lot of problems came with the development like traffic, pollution and global warming. Towards Sustainable Urban Development and Architecture create a city which will reduce the carbon released in the ear by 90% and I will write about it in this essay.

If we complete our live with the same lifestyle we will need another earth to live in the next few years. From statistic 90% of CO2 is released from buildings and transport. SDCJ make a new cool city design for the gulf region which have 1 km as radius and the city contains from 6 regions which are business/ public centre and around it there is Residential zone, culture and sport zone, resort zone, solar power plant farms will be around the city, and finally is the Jtropan forest to prevent sand shifting. The design was but to be easy transporting by walk. All the transportation will be by Water Transportation System, Hybrid car parking areas, Monorail station and Light rail transit station. These four ways will be in all the regions in this city. The building will use the sun for lighting and this is on way from 14 else ways which will reduce the amount of CO2 which is released in the air by 50%.

In conclusion, until now no one built this city because it coasts a lot, but I think it will be build in the future. This kind of cities will help us fighting agents global warming.

Masdar city

Masdar city is a great idea. It will be new life style which will stop destroying the planet. All people all over the world are waiting this project to see the way that Abu Dhabi will participate protecting the planet and be example for the cities in the future.

Although it is a great idea but I thing is not for me because I don’t like this life style. It will be forbidden for any one to drive 4x4 cars but I like it. Another thing that I like to live in wide please not in small flat, the most important thing is I don’t like to walk at all. I also don’t like to use public transport. Yet another thing that I am a smoker and I like to smoke anywhere and I afraid to face the real I cant smoke in there. Finally it is far away from Abu Dhabi and I can’t leave my home town.

In conclusion, this city is a very big movement to help the planet but I am not that kind of people that can leave there home town.

one planet living

· Zero carbon:
o The climate is changing because of human’s activity which raise the level of CO2. Zero carbon means no carbon produce.

· Zero waste:

o We must protect our valuable resources by having no discarded products.

· Sustainable transport:

o Transporting either by plane or cars affects the climate a lot and causes other problems like noise pollution. So we need cleaner way to transport.

· Local and sustainable materials:

o The way we use our materials in construction or manufacturing make the problem bigger.

· Local sustainable food:

o Producing industrial agriculture and transfer it make a lot of pollution.

· Sustainable water:

o Water is not available nowadays for everyone, that because of pollution.

· Natural habitats and wildlife:

o We are losing different kinds of animals and plants and all that because of development and overuse of natural resources.

· Culture and heritage:

o In many countries the local heritage is being lost, because of globalisation and the results of that is loss the local identity.

· Equity and fair trade:

o Many people in developing countries can’t have their basic needs while same people in industrialised countries live in poverty.

· Health and happiness:

· Wealth and greater health are rising and that make us think about contentment.

cool cities in the USA

nine ways in which cities in the USA are reducing their carbon emissions:

1. Iowa: First municipal wind turbine.
2. Klamath Falls: geothermal heating system keeps the sidewalks clear and dry.
3. Seattle: reduce its own pollution by 60% by constructing green buildings and operating alternative fuel vehicles.
4. Houston Texas: By 2010 all vehicles will become hybrid.
5. Salt Lake City: save 32000 a year on its energy cost by installing 861 light emitting diode (LED) traffic signals.
6. Washington DC: replace 414 of its pollution diesel buses with cleaner burning, compressed natural gas buses.
7. Colombia Missouri: working to produce 10% of their electricity with clean energy like wind and solar power by 2015.
8. Twin falls Idaho- School increased their efficiency of energy which caused to reduce the cost by $3.2 million.
9 ST. Paul has built a biomass fired pourer plant for heating building.

My Carbon Footprint

Carbon Footprint is the amount of a carbon dioxide (CO2) released in the air which are produced by a person activities produce. My foot print is 3.39 planets, which means I need more than three planets to live on if everyone consumed the same as I do.

I’m part of this problem, for example, I like to eat meat a lot but that increase the problem; because of we don’t raise enough animals for our food here that mean we need to get it from outside. We import sheep from Australia using ships which pollute the atmosphere. Another example is that I drive a lot every day just for having fun. I didn’t know that it is destroying the planet. Finally I don’t care about recycling any thing of my garbage because I didn’t know the benefits of recycling.

Shifting to solutions, I should reduce the amount of meat I eat, it is not necessary that I eat meat every day. I should eat different kind of food to be healthy. I think that the government should do some thing to not import food from outside and that will not only help the earth it will help the economy to. Another way to reduce my carbon footprint is that I will use my car only if necessary, the government should do some thing for transporting like trains, but more buss on the road this solutions will not reduce the amount of CO2 only it also will reduce the traffic. Finally the government should put some rules to make factories recycle what they need instead of the raw materials.

In conclusion, these are some ways to reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. If we still don’t care about the earth it will be a problem for our children so that every body must do what ever he or she can do to save this green planet.

Why is it called “An Inconvenient Truth”?

Some people call this phenomenon “Global Warming” an inconvenient truth because it annoying them and they don’t want to believe it, or they don’t want to do any thing to stop it because that will cost them a lot to reduce the amount of CO2, so they say we cant effect the earth temperature.

What should be done in Abu Dhabi to make people more aware of the situation?

People in Abu Dhabi are like other people in any city all over the world, they don’t know the dangers of global warming. The people here need some information to help fight against global warming. To do that people must know what causes the problem and what the solutions are. We must use the media to get peoples attention. The government must help us to do that and that will make the work much easer. We can put signs on the roadside or we can put some lessons in schools, I think that will help a lot.

An Inconvenient Truth

Global warming is a common term that we hear it nowadays. There is no doubt that we face a big problem and the issue of global warming is seriously looked at in Al Gore’s world winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth.

In this movie Al Gore explains what is global warming is in simple words and the atmosphere part in our lives and what the greenhouse gases do to the atmosphere. He talked about the possibility of the return of the ice age and he supported his ideas with scientific proofs. He also mentions that the increase in earth heat causes a lot of natural disasters like tornados and floods. He also added the effect of the heat on the land like dryness witch damage the land. He shifted to the danger of melting ice in the North Pole and how that will cool the ocean and cause another ice age or make the sea level high and drowns the cities on the coasts. At the end of the movie he suggests some solutions for this phenomenon like investing and consumes renewable energy and using new technology which decreases the pollution and he encourages people and government to use these solutions.

My Reaction

I think that this movie talk about an important and serious issue which is Global Warming. It makes people think about the future of the earth and the amount of greenhouse gases which threaten our lives. The presenter convinced me that the earth needs to be rescued. I liked the fact that in this movie Al Gore gives us a scientific proof after every point or problem he mentioned and that makes no doubt that we are causing this problem. One of the problems that got my attention is that the possibility of a return of the ice age. It really made me think deeply about all the people who will suffer from the return of ice age. All this proof and points make me change my mind about Global Warming. I didn’t like the way he ended the presentation because he took a lot of time to explain the problem but he give easy solutions for this problem. It needs more than that. For finding a solution to this issue we must study the problem wisely to make sure it will never affect us or our economy.

Diamonds

Diamonds are very expensive. Some countries depend on diamonds trade. You will know a lot about diamonds in this essay I will try to make it as simple as possible.

Diamonds formed along time ago in below the earth surface where the high pressure and temperature of about 1000C. Diamonds transport to the surface with magma. The first place diamonds where discovered in South Africa. Africa is responsible for producing most of the world’s diamonds. De Beers Consolidated is the biggest diamonds company in the world and they do they mine most of their diamonds in South Africa. This company control about 80% of the world rough diamonds trade. In the 20th century the company control over 80% of the world supply, in this way they kept the price of diamonds high. Antuerp is the name of a city witch has been a diamonds centre for 600 years. In this city Indians are associated with the diamonds trade, 1500 polishers and cutters are left in this city today. 80% of the world’s diamonds pass through the city. In India 90% of the worlds rough diamonds are cut and polished. All these cities and countries depend on the rough diamonds witch come from South Africa and Canada. The Indian workers get paid 40 cent per gem for each cut and polished gem. Dubai has been growing reputation as a diamonds hub. Diamonds business worth in Dubai more than 1 billion Dh. A lot of stars love diamonds, for example 50 cent the pop star.

In conclusion, I hope you have a good knowledge about diamonds. I think diamonds trade will grow more and more in the whole world.

My profile

My name is Bader Hamoud al-Sinanni. I was born in Abu Dhabi in the Corniche hospital on 19/ 4 1988. I live in Bani yas with my family in a small villa. I will write about my self in this essay and you will know a lot of my past which has a lot of good and bad memories.

Life as a child

The first thing I remember is my first day in school, my mother took me in the first day to my new school, I was uncomfortable because I didn’t want to go to school.
When we arrived my mom asked one of the teachers to show us my class I saw a lot of children and they where crying, from that moment my hate for schools began. I was thinking about what I will do in this place and my mom stopped in front of a closed door and said to me "This is your class be a good child " like every time I said "Sure mom " . After knocking the door my mom opened the door and introduced me to the teacher and the class. I don’t know what happened but I ran away trying to get out from that place, my mom asked the guard to follow me, at that time I succeeded to get out I arrived to the next building but I didn’t realize that the fat guard was following me. I was caught and the guard went back to school carrying me to my mom she was mad and she punished me, that is my first day in school. From this story obviously you can know how my childhood was.

My teenage years

When I was teenager my life was exciting. For example, one day one of my friends told me about an illegal car show and he wanted me to go with him and his team. I was excited so I went with them to an abandoned military base in the middle of the desert; it was 1am at night. Hundreds of people were there and the show started it was very dangers, but we didn’t care. The show was very good until the police came. All people started to run away at one time. My friends and I ran to our cars and moved fast to the gate where 30 min away. When we arrived to the gate we saw a lot of police cars and some people were caught. Then we returned back because we had two of the show cars which might be problem if the police cough us. Four police cars where following us, so we went to the desert and wait until the police left. The police cars followed us even in the desert and we close switched of our lights to make sure that the police lost but we couldn’t see anything so we stopped.

One of our friends said I think we are lost, and he was right, we are lost in the desert so we started to transfer petrol from the cars which had a lot to other cars using pipes. It was 4 am and no one knows the way back but we hoped for the best. We started to move looking for any way to go back, one of our friends said "I know this please; I will show you the way". All cars followed the man and we arrived to a road which connected Liwa to Abu Dhabi. We all were happy and we returned home. It was 5 am and I was afraid because if my father wake up and he didn’t find me I would be a dead man. I entered my home and ran to my room all my family were a sleep so I slept in peace.

My interests

One of my interests is playing football, I always want to play and learn new skills, but I have a problem in my knee so that I can’t play a lot and my father try prevent me from playing. I also like to play cards with my friends and tease them when they lose.
If I had the chance I would love to learn how to dive, because I love the marina sea.

Something which has influenced me

I think that everybody has different personalities but it can change. Many things affect me and I think I changed a lot; the person who really influenced me is my father.
One day I had a big fight with my father in the morning and I went out to college and we had a lot of work that day and my mobile phone was out of battery. I arrived home at 7pm and I saw my father waiting me in front of the house. When I came near him I saw his eyes were of tears because he thought that I had an accident and he had lost me. At that moment, I felt bad about myself and that influenced me a lot.
